Thanks for visiting my blog about Wicked Awesome Apps. I hope you’ll find it interesting!

I’ll be analyzing, criticizing, and recommending applications from all walks of life; across all categories and platforms.

Wicked Awesome Apps

Calling all hardcore gamers! As a follow up to my post on Epic Citidel… Here is Infinity Blade. And it truly is a game. It’s pretty darn popular already - but, if you haven’t checked this game out by now, you’re missing out!

This game is sick! The team at the Iconfactory (the creators of Twitterrific) not only cranks out sweet icons, but they’re starting to develop some wicked awesome games. Check out Astronut: http://astronutapp.com/

I’ve been “playing” this “game”...

I’ve been “playing” this “game” for the past few months. I’m using quotations here because the Epic Citadel demo (from Epic Games) is not really a game. It’s a virtual world. And you don’t really play it. You just kinda walk around and explore it. It’s like Myst without the storyline and objectives… but with better graphics.

Steve Jobs showed it off at an Apple event back in September and it has been featured in some of the more recent iPhone and iPad commercials.

The controller mechanism is really intuitive, the graphics are spectacular, and the Unreal Engine 3 has a lot of promise. Good things to come…

I just downloaded RockMelt for Mac. It’s a new browser that integrates with your social networks (aka. Facebook). With RockMelt you can, “share easily, search faster, connect with friends, and keep up on news…” or so they say.

So far, I’ve just used the share and chat features. The share feature allows you to quickly and easily post URLs to your Facebook profile. The chat feature is a “new and improved” Facebook chat that resides in the sidebar of your browser - it’s a ruthless productivity killer… But, it makes for some sweet “social surfing.”

Definitely worth checking out…

My buddy, Joe, “told” me about this app via a...

My buddy, Joe, “told” me about this app via a Facebook post. It’s sounds pretty sweet and is definitely worth checking out. In short, Flipboard is a personalized social magazine for your iPad. The company promotes it as ”a fast, beautiful way to flip through news, photos and updates your friends are sharing on Facebook and Twitter.” It’s a free download on the App Store.

I heard there were a few problems with the initial release. Some users were have trouble syncing with Facebook and Twitter. Also, there were a few problems with core functionality, such as the copy & paste feature. Bugs are always expected with the first release… Supposedly, they’ve got a lot of the kinks worked out. We shall see.

Jaw Surgery, iPad, & Back in Action!

Heyo. I’m Back!

So, I’ve been out of it commission for a while… recovering from jaw surgery, highly medicated, and stuck on the couch. Since my last post, I got an iPad and have been diligently working on a social mobile game for the iPhone.

All in all, I’m back in action and should be more “active” in terms of making posts.

Yours truly,

Davy B.

Sorry. It’s been a while. My excuse… My partners...

Sorry. It’s been a while. My excuse… My partners and I have been cranking away on our new iPhone game. I can’t wait to share it with you all.

Anyway, here are two web apps, from the guys at 37Signals, that my partners and I use to collaborate, organize, divide, conquer, and get the job done. You should check ‘em out!

Basecamp is a tool that keeps everybody on track. It’s like the Mothership… Everyone keeps coming back to refuel, rendezvous, and get redirected.

Highrise is a tool for organizing and sharing your contacts. I’ve put a few key contacts on there. However, I don’t think we’re getting the most out of it… I haven’t taken the time to input my roll o’ decks. I’ve got 1000+ business cards stuffed in a shoebox under my bed. It’s on my “tada” list.

37 Signals offers two other awesome web apps (Backpack & Campfire) that are worth checking out. They’ve got a 30-Day free trial for all of their apps.

An application is a complete, self-contained program that...

An application is a complete, self-contained program that performs a specific function directly for the user (according to dictionary.com). You and I conventionally think of applications as hi-tech mobile or web apps. However, there are plenty of apps that don’t fit into either category. I guess it all depends on how we define the word “program.”

To liven things up a bit, I’ll start blogging about low-tech and no-tech apps that strike me as innovative and/or ludicrous. Here’s my first attempt… Zombie Blood.

It is one of the many new energy drinks for hardcore gamers developed by Harcos Labs . Zombie Blood is a complete, self-contained program; a combination of unheard-of ingredients packaged in a nerd-trendy blood bag. And it performs a specific function directly for the user; get’s you cranked up for another night of postmortem madness.

As if Red Bull isn’t enough… ludicrous.

Not sure what the long-term, big picture implications are; they could be big. Anyhow, I’m excited to start foolin’ around with it. More on this later!

WAA #1: What keeps you up at night? You know what keeps me up… Peggle. This game is truly addictive, challenging, and hilarious. Well worth the $2.99 iPhone download. The guys at PopCap have a portfolio of awesome games.
